Frame Your Smile with Stevenson Orthodontics and Smile Esthetics

As any beautiful piece of art is enhanced by its frame, so is the Smile enhanced by the surrounding frame of the facial structures.  Smile Esthetics looks at the "total" package of the Smile---teeth, gum tissue, lips, muscle pull, drape of the skin, and bony structures of the upper and lower jaw bones including the cheek bones.

Once the teeth esthetics is complete with orthodontic treatment and, if needed, any cosmetic dentistry, one needs to start looking at the "frame" surrounding the beautiful teeth.

Our practice is involved with helping "frame" the smile and working with the peri-oral tissues to enhance the Smile.  We offer treatments that include gum tissue lasering, dermal fillers, and Botox injections in helping these peri-oral tissues "frame" the smile.

Laser Treatment of the Gum Tissue

Sometimes our gum tissue height is not symmetrical and as we smile or we might have excessive gum tissue in an area that does not quite look right.  A diode laser is used to "trim" the gum tissues to
even out their heights creating a  more confident smile.

Botox Injections

Botox injections are also used to help reduce a "gummy" smile where the muscle pull of the upper lip is too strong causing too much display of gum tissue.  By injecting Botox into specific muscles, these muscles do not pull as strong limiting the amount of gum tissue showing while smiling.

Botox injections are also used to even out asymmetric or uneven muscular pull that may cause the smile to look "crooked."

The aging process can have an effect of creating a "down-turning" of the corners of the mouth. Injecting into specific peri-oral depressor muscles will help decrease the aging look of a permanent frown.

Dermal Fillers:

Dermal fillers are used in the peri-oral tissues where the aging process has created a loss of fat pads that help keep the peri-oral skin elevated.  We know that as we age the length of the upper lip increases and the loss of fat pads in the cheek areas causes a "droopiness."  This droopiness hides the smile and does not allow a more youthful display of the teeth.  Adding dermal filler to these areas can help keep the frame of the smile elevated.

Dermal fillers in the lips can help reduce the gum tissue display as well as help create a more youthful "frame" around the teeth.
